Anesthesia
We perform a thorough physical examination of your pet and conduct a series of blood tests prior to administering anesthesia. Underlying diseases and conditions may complicate the use of anesthesia, and so these screenings are important for your pet. Based on the results of the exam and blood tests, we develop an anesthetic protocol that's unique to your pet. Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic uses the latest technology to administer anesthesia to your pet.
Surgical monitoring
Your pet's safety and comfort during surgery are our highest priority. We utilize advanced surgical monitoring instruments, including EKG, pulse oximetry monitors, blood pressure monitors and other instruments to ensure your pet's vital signs remain stable during surgery. Heating pads and blankets are used to maintain your pet's body temperature and keep him or her warm during and after the procedure. During all surgeries, a specially trained veterinary technician is on hand to assist with the procedure and closely monitor your pet.
Pain Management
Pain management is an important part of our intra- and post-operative protocols. The less pain your pet experiences during and after surgery, the more comfortable he or she will be and the faster he or she will recover. We administer pain medications during and following your pet's surgery and additional medication may be provided for you to administer at home. Our staff can instruct you on proper administration of the medication and can also provide tips on how to keep your pet most comfortable following surgery.
